ということで、「十日町エリア」のその2をご紹介。東京からもっとも近いエリアで、大地の芸術祭の玄関口。里山十帖からも市街地まで車で20分と、すぐそこの距離です。
【絵本と木の実の美術館】
十日町市街から信濃川の上流方面に車で約15分、新潟・魚沼らしいのどかな風景が広がる山間集落にある、木造の小学校跡地が、この美術館。周辺の雰囲気もさることながら、さらに田島征三の世界観が立体絵本となって体験できる、素晴らしい空間です。
2009年の芸術祭で作られた施設ですが、毎回、開催されるたびに作品が拡大。今回は玄関前の斜面などに新たな立体絵本の物語が展開されています。
施設内には、昔ながらの教室を利用したカフェ「Hachi Café」も併設。里山十帖のスタッフにはいちばん人気の施設です。

That’s a common reaction from our guests. And it’s true—the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale spans an area as vast as Tokyo’s 23 wards. That’s why at Satoyama Jujo, we recommend focusing on specific areas to truly enjoy the experience.
So here is our second recommendation in the Tokamachi area, which is the closest art zone to Tokyo and also serves as the gateway to the festival. It’s only about 20 minutes by car from Satoyama Jujo to the city center.
[The Picture Book and Nuts Museum]
About 15 minutes upstream from Tokamachi along the Shinano River, you’ll find this charming museum nestled in a quiet mountain village—housed in a beautifully preserved wooden elementary school.
The museum was created for the 2009 Art Triennale and features immersive, three-dimensional picture book installations by artist Seizo Tashima. The latest exhibition expands the story even further, with new works now displayed outside on the hillside near the entrance.
Inside, you’ll also find “Hachi Café,” located in one of the old classrooms—perfect for a relaxing break.
This is actually a favorite spot among Satoyama Jujo staff, and we highly recommend it.
